Brad Gushue is doubling up in his post-competition career.
Our boss knew it, but he thought it might happen with TSN and their annual Canadian championship (Scotties/Brier) coverage.
Brad Gushue was announced today as a TV curling analyst for the Grand Slam of Curling series – owned by The Curling Group – which will be broadcast on Sportsnet and CBC starting next month.
Also announced as analysts were world champion Joanne Courtney, Olympic champion Jennifer Jones and Jones’ husband Brent Laing, also a world champ.
Jones and Laing, of course, still compete in mixed doubles.
Here’s The Curling Guy’s social post from a few months ago, showing who our editor “gk” thought Gushue would be working with on TV this fall.
This will now be a really delicate dance – with caveats – since Gushue serves as high performance director of USA Curling, and there will be U.S. teams competing in both the Slams and Rock League.
On the play-by-play side, John Cullen and Darren Dupont will feature.
Cullen will be familiar to fans of streamed curling coverage, as he previously anchored game coverage on Rock Channel and other streaming platform tournament coverage, such as CurlingZone’s Curling Stadium.
Dupont will be a new face to many outside of Saskatchewan. Sometimes nicknamed “Moose,” Dupont has served as the voice of lacrosse’s Saskatchewan Rush and has made championship calls in football, hockey, and curling. He’s also co-host of the daily sports talk show The Rod Pedersen Show, which has often featured curlers.
Devin Heroux, who no longer heads content strategy for The Curling Group (Cullen has taken over) will be on-site for all Grand Slam events, reporting for CBC.
This means both Kevin Martin and Mike Harris are out of the on-site broadcast booth.
The Curling News also understands CBC will anchor its weekend “Curling Night in Canada” Slam coverage in studio, providing pre-game, mid-game and post-game analysis.
